Welcome to Kindergarten in Room 103!
My name is Ms. Strom and I am very excited to work with your child this year! We will be learning so many new and interesting things, from letters and numbers, to computers and Chinese. My original letter to parents (attached below) includes background information on me, as well as some of the basic expectations and reminders for a successful year.
I will send home a monthly newsletter, as well as weekly notes attached to the homework packet on Mondays. I am also happy to communicate with you to answer any questions and concerns you have throughout the year. The best ways to reach me are email, and in person before or after school.
Our Specials Schedule: Mondays--Chinese Mandarin Tuesdays--Hubbard Street Dance and Physical Education (P.E. or Gym)* Wednesdays--Art Studio Thursdays--Music Fridays--Chinese Mandarin *Please remember to dress appropriately for Dance/P.E. on Tuesdays. See handbook excerpt for more information on what to wear.
Student Spotlight (or Student of the Week) will begin next week. I will notify you ahead of time the week in which your child will be our Student Spotlight. During this time, students can bring in pictures (we will return), favorite books, hobbies, or even one toy for show and tell. You can also help by reminding your child to be patient for their turn in the Spotlight, with so many special kindergartners, it's important that everyone get their fair turn.
Our Reading and Writing Theme this year is "Do the Write Thing!" Students will work to earn 10 credits each quarter for either reading and responding to a book or creating a piece of writing. More information will be forthcoming on how to keep track of credits and creative ways to respond.
Please don't forget to pay your $15 student fees (Cash Only). This money goes to help purchase everything from consumable math materials to special events. Please don't forget to return the start of the year forms (Emergency, Lunch Forms, Volunteer Options, Walking Field Trip Slip, etc). See Ms. Strom or the office if you have any questions.
Again, thanks again for allowing me to be a partner in your child's education. It's going to be a terrific year!
Thank you, Ms. Strom
