Welcome guitarists!

To all 2nd semester students:

I've recently uploaded a version of the "Blues Shuffle" which we will be performing at the concert on June 10th.  Be sure to practice along!

We're ready for our second song, "The Campfire Song."
This song uses the chords A, D, and E. The chord progression is:

AAAA  DD  AA    (repeat 3 times)
DDDD   EEEE    (only once)

Lets gather around the campfire
And sing our campfire song
Our C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E S-O-N-G song
And if you don't think that we can sing it faster then you're wrong
But it'll help if you just sing along

Be sure to practice playing 10 minutes a day.  While practicing, you can go this website and play your chord along to a drum beat.

http://lkr.trufuel.com/lessons/drummer/buildabeat/

Remember the five rules of how your LEFT hand should look:

1.  Curve your fingers like a cat’s claws.

2.  For now, each finger will touch one string.

3.  Press hard enough to get a good sound.

4.  Thumb is facing up on the back of the guitar.

5.  Fingers go on the wooden part of the neck, NOT the metal fret.

Our first song we will learn is called "Jambalaya." It uses the chords D and A.

We will begin by playing the D chord part, and eventually we will add the A chord.

On the beat, play the D chord 4 times, the A chord 8, and then D another 4 times. Repeat over and over!

"Jambalaya" by Hank Williams

Good-bye Joe, me gotta go, me oh my oh
Me gotta go pole the pirogue down the bayou
My Yvonne, the sweetest one, me oh my oh
Son of a gun, we’ll have big fun on the bayou
(Chorus)
Jambalaya and a crawfish pie and file' gumbo
'Cause tonight I’m gonna see my ma cher amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-o
Son of a gun, we’ll have big fun on the bayou
