Ellen Mitchell Elementary School is a community of passionate, life-long learners. Students, staff, parents and other partners work hard to create an environment where everyone can thrive. As a Literature and Writing Magnet Cluster School, we have extra resources to support our growth as thoughtful readers and creative writers. We hope you enjoy learning about our school and reading our work. Drop us a note to let us know what you think!
6 Teacher Teams win Oppenheimer Grants!
The Oppenheimer Family Foundation supports project-based learning through Teacher Incentive Grants. This fall, 6 teacher teams were awarded grants to help fund inter-disciplinary projects to engage students in innovative learning projects. Once again, Mitchell School had the most winning teams. These grants will help fund an after-school program to create a mural, the spring musical, a math and music after-school program, an anti-bullying program with middle school students, a Chinese Market, and a Holocaust propaganda project.

Tot Time
An opportunity for 2-3 year old children to meet new friends and socialize in a structured preschool environment. For parents, this is a great way to learn more about Mitchell School and our dynamic Pre-K program. Dates are provided on the attached form and listed on the calendar. Hope to see you there!
This year, students will meet their quarterly reading goals while emphasizing the important qualities of philanthropy and advocacy. Students will Read for a Cause, by seeking pledges for a charity for each page or book that they read. As a school we raised $2,160 in the first quarter. Our school-wide goal is $5,500 by the end of the year. Listen to what our students have to say about what this exciting project means to them.
Naturalization Ceremony
8th grade students from Mitchell Elementary School hosted a Naturalization Ceremony for individuals from around the world. The ceremony built upon the work the 8th grade did with immigration and what it means to be a citizen.
Congratulations on becoming a new citizen of The United States of America. Now remember that being a citizen is not easy. First, you can vote. You have to keep your city clean. If you make a promise, you have to keep it. If you want to be a good citizen, you have to take care of others.
